The Sovol Sv03 is the third of its line, which its name suggests. This printer has a few upgrades from the previous models, which isn’t a surprise since new models usually have a bit more to offer. The SV03 has a much larger build area than the previous two, plus it includes automatic bed leveling, dual Z-axis steppers, and the quiet TMC2208 driver to prevent waking the neighbors every time you turn it on. If you’re interested in what this model can do for you, check out our Sovol Sv03 review for more information.

Review

The Sovol Sv03 is a high-quality 3D printer with a ton of great features to test out. If you’re interested in trying it but aren’t sure what it has to offer, keep reading. The following information will cover every aspect of what this machine can do.

Sovol Sv03 Overview

Before getting into all of the features that you can expect from the Sovol Sv03, let’s take a look at how this model compares to others and what you can expect from it before you put it to use.

Sovol Sv03 vs Sovol Sv02

The Sovol Sv03 and Sovol Sv02 3D printers have a few of the same features, including the TMC2208 Silent Board, the Ribbon Cable Connector, and the Meanwell Power Supply. The Sv03 model also includes a few upgrades that you find on the SV02. The most noticeable is the build area, which is 13.7 x 13.7 x 15.7 inches compared to the area of 11 x 9.4 x 11.8 inches of the Sv02. You can create much larger prints with the Sv03, though this model also takes up a great deal more space.

The Sv03 also includes the BL Touch Preinstalled Auto Leveling, which makes any adjustments needed for the optimal distance between the bed and the nozzle during printing. It also includes a belt tensioner and the Direct Drive Extruder, neither of which is found on the previous model.

What’s in the box

There are a lot of parts that make up the Sovol Sv03 3D printer. These include the base, gantry, LCD screen and bracket, Filament sensor, a couple of filament holders, power and USB cables, a TF Card and Reader, and a few screws. There are also some cable ties, a spatula, spare nozzles, a spool of filament, and some wrenches and screwdrivers included in the box.

Though this sounds like a lot of parts to deal with, this model is almost fully assembled when you purchase it, so there is very little for you actually attach. That’s why this company can claim out-of-the-box printing, even for those trying one of these machines for the first time.

Price

Sovol Trusted Source About Sovol Founded by a Group of Maker GeeksSovol specializes to develop series of maker machines and accessories with quality design, innotive functionality and reasonable prices. sovol3d.com focuses on three things when creating their 3D printers. The first is high-quality designs, from their machines to the accessories used with them. The second is the functionality of the printers, which is why they are constantly adding new and interesting innovations without sacrificing the old ones that work perfectly well. The last is the price, which they strive to keep at a budget-friendly level, so even those who can’t afford a high-end printer can still get a great model to meet their needs. The Sv03 meets this specification, as well as the others, so you can get a great printer with a huge build area for a decent price.

Construction

One of the most important aspects of a 3D printer is the construction. Let’s take a look at what this model has to offer in this area.

Overall dimensions and weight

The Sovol Sv03 is quite a large machine, with dimensions of 23.1 x 26.5 x 33.07 inches, so if you’re thinking of purchasing this model, you need to make sure you have room for it before spending your money. It isn’t overly heavy, weighing only about 30 pounds, so it can easily be moved by one person if needed. It is a bit cumbersome, though, so it is a good idea to figure out the best place for it and leave it there rather than risking damage to the components during multiple moves.

Controls and screen

Sovol SV03 features compact LCD screen with an easy-to-use control dial

Simple controls make a 3D printer that much easier to use. The Sovol Sv03 includes a small LCD screen with their model, which includes a single dial to control the functions. Even beginners in the world of 3D printing should be able to figure out how to work this machine.

For those who want a bit more control, there is also a touchscreen available that can be used with the Sv03. This upgrade also includes a Tungsten nozzle, though together these only cost about $50, so you won’t be spending too much extra, even if you don’t use the nozzle.

Software and connectivity

When it comes to the software, the Sovol Sv03 can be used with either Cura or Simplify3D Trusted Source Software Features Simplify3D includes everything you need to work with your 3D printer. Model setup and plating, slicing and print file creation, pre-print simulations, customizable support structures, mesh analysis and repair, machine control and monitoring, and much more! With support for hundreds of 3D printers, Simplify3D is the last software you’ll ever need! www.simplify3d.com , which are both common choices for these types of printers. As for the modeling technology, FDM is the one Sovol favors.

For the connectivity, you can use either an SD card or a USB cord linked to your computer to get the prints you want. This means that you don’t have to haul your laptop back and forth to your 3D printer if you don’t already have them in the same room. Plus, those using their 3D printer at work can create their prints and home and just take the SD card with them to print their designs.

Performance

The following sections cover the actual use of the Sovol 3D printer, which are likely the most important factors to consider. If the performance of the model is poor, you won’t keep it around, so knowing what to expect when it is actually put to use is a must.

Ease of use

To operate Sovol SV03 – you just need to upload model and dial preferred settings

The Sovol Sv03 includes a lot of features that ensure even newcomers to 3D printing can get their prints completed without too much of a hassle. First, it isn’t difficult to get the printer put together, so you can get started on the prints right away. The LCD screen is rather basic, giving you all the information you need without scrolling through a ton of features. Upgrading to the touchscreen simplifies this even more since you only need to touch the settings you want for a quick and easy set-up.

Another feature that ensures easy printing include the filament sensor, which lets you know that the filament is running out before it is actually empty. The Resume Printing function lets you start a print exactly where it stopped, even if you turn off the machine. The built-in BLTouch automatic bed-leveling system makes minor adjustments throughout the print to maintain the proper distance between the bed and the nozzle. Not only does this ensure higher quality prints, but it also improves adhesion to the bed to keep the print from shifting during use. Build volume

This 3D printer has a huge build area of 13.7 x 13.7 x 15.7 inches, which means that you can create much larger prints with this one than you can with earlier Sovol models. Of course, not everyone needs such large builds, so if you don’t plan on making anything even close to this size, you may want to save yourself the space by choosing a smaller printer.

Safety of use

Safety is one of the most important features of everything you buy and 3D printers are no exception. The Sovol Sv03 includes the Meanwell Power Supply, which is designed to provide your printer with protection from power surges, so it won’t short out, damaging the machine and anything around it.

This power supply is also responsible for heating the coated glass print bed, which it does quite quickly, despite the large area that requires heating. It maintains steady, adequate power levels for the entire printing process, ensuring more accurate results when the print is finished. The Meanwell Power Supply can even be adjusted to be used with both 115V and 230V outlets, ensuring this printer can be used all over the world.

Printing speed and accuracy

The regular printing speed offered by this 3D printer is 60mm per second, though it does have a maximum speed of 120 mm per second if you need to go quicker. Even at higher speeds, the Sovol Sv03 offers incredible accuracy, thanks to the many features used during the printing process.

First is the Direct Drive Extruder, which allows a great deal of control over the filament’s retraction for increased accuracy during extrusion. This piece also allows you to use a variety of filaments, including the more flexible ones, without sacrificing the quality of the finished product.

Other features that help improve accuracy during printing include the Carbon Crystal Silicon Glass Bed, which heats well and offers proper adhesion, the Filament Run-Out Sensor, the Dual Z-Axis design, the auto-leveling function, and the adjustable belt tensioners.

Who Should Buy It?

Due to its size, this model is best suited to those who are looking to create large printed models. It gives you plenty of room to create bigger pieces for whatever you have in mind, without worrying about running out of space. We recommend this model for architects and cosplayers.

It also has an affordable price, so those on a budget can still purchase this model without breaking the bank. It comes semi-assembled and has simple controls, so both newcomers and more experienced users can get quality prints without too much difficulty.

PROS CONS
  • Easy assembly
  • Quiet operation
  • Built well
  • Decent price
  • Unclear instructions
  • Quite large

Conclusion

The Sovol Sv03 is the upgraded version of the original Sv01 and more recent Sv02 versions. It has a ton of great features that ensure high-quality, accurate production, plus it can be used with a variety of filaments to give your designs the perfect look when they’re finished. Despite its large size, it still has a budget-friendly price, so you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a great 3D printer.
